The Informed Household empowers individuals to make better financial planning decisions, whether you prefer to do-it-yourself or are already receiving professional advice. At its core, our platform is a budget validation tool and financial education resource. Think of it as your “financial fitness tracker” for monitoring your current saving preferences and future spending priorities.

Unlike free, online financial calculators that provide one-off estimates, the Informed Household will educate you about the tradeoffs between various saving and spending strategies, measure their effectiveness and guide your household to financial independence. It provides you with a simple big picture view of where you are now, where you need to go in the future and how to get started.

So come on this journey of discovery with the Informed Household and get doing!

Howdy….I’m Jim Koch, an independent Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) since 2009 running my own advisory firm, Koch Capital Management LLC (Koch Capital). Prior to starting Koch Capital, I spent two decades as a commercial real estate financier and in software development. My educational background includes an MBA in Finance from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.

The Informed Household represents my life long passion to combine my previous software development experience with my retirement planning knowledge to help the American family better prepare for retirement and achieve financial independence.

While an affiliate of Koch Capital, the Informed Household is operated independently and is not intended to provide advisory services. For more information on the Informed Household, please feel free to reach out to me by phone (925-386-6831) or by email at: jim@informedhousehold.com.

On a personal note, I live in Alamo, California, with my wife and our two children. When I’m not evaluating your saving preferences and spending priorities (Informed Household) or managing your investment portfolio (Koch Capital), you can find me hiking the East Bay hills with my dog, swimming, fishing and camping with family and friends. BTW…I’m not related to Jim Koch, the Boston beer guy, nor to the Koch Industry brothers if you were wondering!
